Spyderco Delica4 FRN Knife

In 1990 Spyderco shook things up by introducing two knives, the Delica and Endura. First of their kind on the market, both folders opened up the knife market to lightweight performance, one-hand open pocket knives that just about everyone could afford. They settled as Spyderco’s top two bestsellers and their improvement hasn’t slowed since. Refinement has been so ongoing and continual.  Spyderco tagged the updating/upgrading process with the term CQI- Constant Quality Improvement. During the Delica’s CQI journey Spyderco tweaked ergonomics, refined blade steels and fine-tuned the performance countless times. They are an evolutionary work in progress and the next level is here with the new Spyderco Delica4 knife. Now with screw construction cleaning and adjusting are easier. The fiberglass reinforced nylon handles come molded with Bi-Directional Texturing® for preferred traction and improved ergonomics. Inside the handle dual skeletonized stainless steel liners make the knife stronger without adding weight and make an anchor for all external and internal components to attach through adding sturdiness and rigidity. Their VG-10 blades are flat saber-ground with a stronger tip and larger 13mm opening hole. Added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip.

Based on the background green found in the U.S. Army’s Digital Camo, the military foliage green Delica4 knife is designed for both military and civilians. The color is a shade-shifting mix of gray and green that effectively disappears into its surroundings. Spyderco offers this new handle color option on the revamped Delica4. Check out this addition to the classic Delica Model with a color-blend foliage green G-10 laminate handle.   This grip-grabbing lightweight handle shakes off temperature extremes, chemicals and hard-use without discoloration, warping or peeling.  The shade changing green-gray color blends into the U.S. Army’s digital cammo, taking on the color spectrum of its surroundings and keeping the knife unobtrusive.  The G-10 Delica is available in PlainEdge with a full flat ground VG-10 blade.

Our Delica trainer has the same features as its live counterpart -- minus the sharpened cutting edge. Holes drilled out of the blade and an upswept tip, take away a small amount of weight and make the piece balanced in the hand. Stopping the knife from slipping and sliding, the handle is deeply textured in Spyderco's volcano grip pattern. By making the FRN handle red, it's designated and easily recognizable as a training model. The black metal clip is ambidextrous and positions the knife in the pocket tip-up.

Spyderco Delica4 Emerson Opener Trainer Knife

This year’s knife industry trends appear to be leaning toward making functionality fun and techie with folding knife features like the Emerson opening feature leading the parade.  Popularized and patented by Ernest Emerson of Emerson Knives, the opening feature is a hook curving out the blade’s spine that catches the edge of your pant’s pocket when drawing the knife.  It quickly opens the knife blade so it’s locked and ready to use. The fact there is a learning curve in using the opening feature makes a this trainer applicable.

Gaining proficiency in safely handling and opening an Emerson folder comes through repetitive practice. Delica and Endura Emerson Opener Trainers are identically sized, proportioned and weighted replicas of their “live” counterparts sans a sharpened edge and point. Designating them trainers are their red FRN handles. The handles have Bi-Directional Texturing® for traction and screw-together construction for cleaning and adjustment. To reduce weight the dual handle liners are skeletonized stainless steel and holes in the blade remove even more ounces.
